This unit was all about experimenting. I tried different kinds of glaze, different tools, and different techniques. As a result, the final outcome is a bit of a random and motley assortment of pots that don’t seem to have much in common. I got my inspiration from everyday objects and included a few personal touches to show off my fun, girly side, such as hearts and flowers. In my original sketches, I planned on glazing all my pots some shade of pink. However, the more I thought about it, I decided having eight pink pots would be a bit boring and uncreative. I pushed myself to look for colors I wouldn’t immediately reach for. I started using blues, reds, and grays. As a girl who dreams in pink, it was pretty amazing that I could try something completely different and still be extremely pleased with the results. I think my rusty blue bathtub and fiery red mug look much better now than they would have if I had painted them pink. I feel like I have matured as an artist these past few weeks, both in skill and attitude. I am looking forward to continuing my ceramics journey and creating more pieces of art - sans pink, of course.
