This unit the main focus was learning how to wheel-throw, and using the wheel to create cylindrical mugs. This was my first time on the wheel before. I found it extremely challenging at first, but as the classes progressed I found myself getting better and enjoying wheel throwing more and more. It is a nice and fast way to create ceramic pieces. I also love how the clay is so smooth and even when it has been wheel thrown. For both my mugs, the connecting theme is obviously the animal theme. One is an owl and one is a cat! I think both those animals are really cute and cool, which is why I decided to choose those animals. However, one of the main reasons I went with the animal theme in the first place is because my mugs were actually a bit lopsided and funny shaped, so I transformed them into animals as a way to disguise my mistakes. I think it was a creative problem solving solution! This unit taught me that making mistakes is no big deal, and you can use your mistakes as an advantage to make something cool. I think this helps me to become a better artist since I am more willing to take risks and be creative. Besides, if anything goes wrong I can just turn it into a puppy or an elephant!
