So....where do I begin.
Ceramics has been one of my favorite classes ever. It gave me an opportunity to take my mind of school work and stress, and focus on a task in front of me. For that reason, I'm really grateful and glad I took ceramics this year. I came into this class with absolutely no knowledge and barely and experience in ceramics. I've never been considered a talented artist, because I'm really bad a drawing/painting. I like how in ceramics those skills aren't as important, and I love how moldable and easy to shape clay is, because I can physically build my project, and if I make a mistake I can just rub it away. Also, I love how creative I can be, because I can build whatever I please. This year I was able to make a bunch of weird, ridiculous objects like cats, oranges, bathtubs, purses, and princess towers because those are the kinds of things I enjoy apparently. I love that sense of creative freedom.
I learned so much this year, both artist skills and personal knowledge. For artistic skills I learned how to work with clay, obviously. I also learned more specific techniques like slab building, coil rolling, pinch pot building, piercing, and wheel throwing. While not particularly useful in everyday situations, I think it's always good to have multiple skills and talents, and who doesn't like a person who knows how to make a nice bowl(: As for personal skills, I learned how to manage multiple projects at once, keep a blog, and stay organized. At some points in the year I was handling like three projects at once, and I had to learn how to stay organized and finish all these projects. I also managed to stay constant with my blog, which is a first for me. I remember when I was younger I always tried to keep a journal or a diary, but I was never diligent enough to write in it on a consistent basis. This year I was able to update my blog every week! Woohoo! Maybe now that I am a successful weekly blogger, I can start like a weekly journal post or something..hmmm.. ideas. Either way I am very proud of how much I grew and learned throughout the course of this class.
I'm really sad that this year is over, and I'm even more sad that I am not taking Ceramics 2 next year. I really wish I could, but I didn't have enough spaces in my schedule to take it. I think I'm gonna have major stress next year, without a class to relax and concentrate on something other than academics. I'll make sure to take ceramics my senior year! Wow. Senior year. I'm getting so old! Till then, goodbye ceramics class! Xx, Bethany
