Hello! This week I glazed my purse slab pot! I chose the shade 'smokey merlot' because it sounded nice. Haha just kidding! I chose it because it is a nice purpley color and I think a purple purse is always awesome. My pots been having a lot of problems though. The buckle is cracked in two pieces now, and I could only glaze part of my handle on the back or else it'd stick to the kiln. I'm going to wait till it comes out to decide how I will cover it up. I might just paint over it all in acrylic.
So it turns out I'm all caught up with everything so I didn't have much to finish this week. I started the new project, masks of emotion, this week. I listened to a few of my favorite songs and tried to conjure faces of emotion from the song. I'm having difficulty trying to figure out which emotions I should do, because I feel like I only know how to show 'happy','sad' and maybe 'angry'. I feel like everything else is too subtle and I'm scared to try it, because other people won't be able to figure out what emotion I was trying to convey. One that I really want to try is 'regret', because I think that is a really vulnerable and sad emotion. I would have to exaggerate it a lot though, so that people won't think my mask is just bored or frowning.
This week I finished my slab pot! It's a purse!! :3 It has been a very challenging project but I enjoyed it and am please with the finished look. I think I did a good job of implementing subtractive and additive relief, with the crocodile texture and handles/buckles.
Update: I checked my pot today and noticed that my buckle detail on the front had fallen off. The piece is really dry and fragile so I do not want to try attaching it now because I feel like it will crumble. I think I will wait till after it has been fired and glue the piece on afterwards. I left the piece inside my pot so it will not get lost. I am sad that it cracked :( Hello! This week I began assembling my slab pot. I must say, this is probably the most difficult project I've done this year. I had trouble fitting my slabs together perfectly and also keeping them the proper plasticity. I wanted them to be somewhat dry but not too hard, however I feel like it got a bit too dry and I had difficulty attaching them. Last class I managed to cut the puzzle lid but I did have some issues with the slabs cracking at the top. I hoped I repaired it well enough so it won't happen again. I think the pot is looking okay right now! I'm done with the main body but I need my additive details like the handle and buckles still.
Hello! This week I worked on my plans for my slab pot. I decided not to begin actually working on it until after spring break, because I don't want anything to dry up. Instead, I glazed my owl mug! I think it looks really cute with the unfired glaze combination, but I'm excited to see what the colors will look once they've been fired. That's about it for this week. I'll update more after spring break!
