Hi! This week I finished up my tower pot and put it on display with my artist statement. I forgot to take a picture of the display, but maybe I'll upload one later if I remember. In the meantime, I also photographed my pot so there is a nice looking picture of it on the coil pot page of this website. As for my WCP, I started piercing it, as you can see. I must say, it looks a bit crude and messy right now. Piercing is definitely a challenging task for me, and I find it a bit daunting. I made a few mistakes already, but I think my skills will get better as I continue practicing. I'll probably make this first flower section the back of my pot, so people won't see it much anyways. Hopefully after I brush off the extra dust, smooth it out, and add some glaze, my pot will look better. That's it for this week, I'll update again soon! Bye!!
I finished a few things this week. First, I finished making the base of my World Culture Pot. The shape isn't quite how I planned it to be, but I think it looks good enough. It's a bit bigger than I expected. I am going to wait till next class, when it will be leather hard, to start piercing it. I also finished my coil pot! When the glaze came out of the kiln I was a bit surprised by the color of the roof. It was a strange light brown/beige mixture which I wasn't that fond of. I decided to paint over it with some golden acrylic paint, and I think it came out quite nice! It looks even more like a magical fairytale tower now. I probably should have taken a 'before' picture of the roof, but I got so carried away with the acrylic paint that I forgot. Next week I will focus on finishing up my world culture pot by piercing it, and getting my coil pot ready to put on display.
Long time no see. I'm back from my long and relaxing winter break. Today I glazed my coil pot with high fire glaze. It was my first time dipping so it was a bit awkward, but I think it turned out okay. I'm not 100% sure what to expect with the colors, so I'm kind of excited and nervous. The good thing about my pot is that it can be brown, green, or blue and not make a huge difference to me. I chose the color 'iron lustre' for the base, and 'oil spot' for the lid. It was fun dipping the base because the glaze filled up inside because of the window hole, and then I had to pour it out. I'm looking forward to seeing my final tower!! Next class I'm going to focus on my WCP and starting my poster. Talk to you next week, Bethany.
